Arsenal interested in securing £40m transfer after Tottenham low-ball attempt rejected

Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta is looking to upgrade his attacking depth this summer ahead of the 2023/24 season

Arsenal are reportedly interested in Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes. The England international is expected to leave the Foxes this summer following their relegation from the Premier League and a host of clubs are said to be keen.

Barnes, 25, enjoyed one of his best seasons on an individual level last term despite Leicester’s relegation, scoring 13 goals in 40 appearances. The summer transfer window is set to see the Burnley-born make a return to the Premier League. His wages and valuation look destined to be too much for the Foxes to turn down, with plenty of suitors already lining him up.

Tottenham and West Ham are two clubs who have strongly been linked in the last month, with Spurs reportedly submitting a £50million bid for Barnes and James Maddison. Recent reports have claimed Ange Postecoglou’s side are leading the race to sign Maddison, leaving the door open for Arsenal to swoop in for Maddison.According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners have developed an interest in the forward. However, a move for Barnes is expected to take its time. The report suggests Leicester are yet to determine a price tag for their star winger.

Barnes is valued at €30million (£25.5m) by CIES Football Observatory, but a price closer to £40million has been touted in the past. The appointment of Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium last week will almost certainly play a big role in the future of Leicester’s best players in the coming weeks.

Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season. Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka both enjoyed fantastic seasons last term, but options off the bench have been unable to produce the goods when called upon.
