Tottenham Hotspur fans are incredibly excited about the prospect of Destiny Udogie finally wearing the Lilywhite kit, and the player himself has now offered supporters a handy explanation of how to pronounce his name.
Udogie was signed from Italian side Udinese last summer, but remained with the Serie A club for the 2022/23 campaign on a season-long loan.
The youngster was in fine form for Udinese, too, making 34 appearances and contributing three goals and four assists (Transfermarkt). Now, the 20-year-old is back in North London full-time and is ready to make his mark on new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. Many expect the starlet to play a big role in the Australian’s attacking system this year.
Udogie has already had an impact, too, having scored a smart header on his debut in the 3-2 defeat to West Ham.
His performance in the first game of Tottenham’s pre-season tour was a tantalising glimpse of what the new boy could do this season.
Destiny Udogie brings good news to Tottenham
The talented young left-back has been getting himself acquainted with the English media already, and even appeared on the club’s YouTube channel earlier this week to praise the manner in which he has been welcomed by everyone at Spurs.
Now, Udogie has been speaking to Football.London, and shed some light on the pronunciation, and meaning, of his unique name.
For those wondering, Udogie is pronounced: “ooh-doggy.”
And, as an extra little bit of information, his full name is actually Iyenoma Destiny Udogie. The player told Football.London that he found out recently that Iyenoma means “good news,” which is a promising sign if Spurs fans needed one.

The way Udogie has introduced himself into the squad and dived into media duties is admirable for such a young player, and he clearly has a mature head on his shoulders.
We can’t wait to see how he performs this season for Spurs.
