Gary Neville says pressure is not on Leeds, thinks they can beat Tottenham on Sunday

Gary Neville has told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that something “mad” will have to happen to see Leeds United avoid relegation to the Championship on the final day – with a win against Tottenham possibly not enough.

Leeds remain in the hunt for safety, but by the skin of their teeth. Having suffered a 3-1 loss to West Ham, when both Leicester and Everton picked up a point and Nottingham Forest won – it sees Leeds two adrift, one left to play.

We take on Tottenham at home on Sunday. Meanwhile, Everton host Bournemouth and Leicester are at home to West Ham. Not only do Leeds have probably the toughest fixture, but also, Everton arguably have the easier game.

Leeds and Leicester need Everton to drop points. A win for Leicester and a draw for Everton would keep the Foxes up, but that is not the case for Leeds – who have a worse goal difference. Leeds need an Everton loss on Sunday.

Neville underlined how unlikely it is for Leeds to stay up: “A lot has to go well for Leeds. They’re going to need Everton to lose, because even if they win and Everton get a point, it’s not enough. Can they get a big win?

“I’m not sure. Something mad is going to have to happen for Leeds to stay up. But it’s all Everton. It’s on them, they’re at home, they’re going to have to do something, without Dom Calvert-Lewin,” Neville added on MNF.

Gary Neville: Something mad needed to see Leeds avoid relegation
It has now got to the stage where relegation is more likely than survival. For us to even beat Spurs and still maybe fail to survive is a sign of just how desperate things have got. Everton, even without Calvert-Lewin, should win.

Or, at least get a result. Should they even draw the game, that is not enough for Leeds – unless the Whites can beat Spurs by three or more goals. Again, even more unlikely. Leeds need Everton and Leicester to lose, to beat Spurs.
