Danny Murphy has backed Tottenham Hotspur to sign Leicester City star James Maddison and Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
The 2023 summer transfer window officially opens on Wednesday and Murphy thinks if Tottenham signed James Maddison, then he could become a ‘real legend’ at the club, as he told talkSPORT.
Added to that, he feels that a possible transfer swoop of Brentford’s number one goalkeeper David Raya would be ‘perfect’.
There is no doubt that Maddison heads for the exit door this summer because of Leicester’s relegation to the Championship.
Added to that, there is also every chance that Raya also leaves Brentford because he has one-year left on his contract, with suggestions that the Bees want £40 million for the player.
Nonetheless, Murphy backed Spurs to possibly secure a deal for Maddison and Raya this summer.
On if James Maddison is stepping up from Leicester to Spurs: “Yes, absolutely,” responded Murphy. “He could become a real legend there. I do (think he’s a perfect fit for Spurs)
On David Raya to Spurs: “Perfect.
On if Spurs got Raya and Maddison, sold Kane, and invested the money, will they compete for UCL: “I think they are three or four players away from competing in the Champions League. Those two (Raya and Maddison) would be two really good additions. But defensively they have problems.”Maddison and Raya would elevate Tottenham
The two key areas Spurs need to improve on are the goalkeeping department and bringing that creative mind to the middle of the park.
With Hugo Lloris heading for the exit door, it’s pretty clear that a new long-term number one needs to be signed, and in truth, a new shot-stopper was needed before the France star’s call to leave.
Added to that, it has been over three years since Christian Eriksen left Spurs, yet to this day, they haven’t replaced the Manchester United man, so pushing the boat out for a number ten is a big need for those in the Spurs boardroom.
