‘HE IS UP THERE’: RIO FERDINAND SERIOUSLY IMPRESSED BY MANAGER TOTTENHAM REPORTEDLY WANT

Rio Ferdinand has raved about Tottenham Hotspur manager target and Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi.

The former Manchester United defender has said on his YouTube channel that Roberto De Zerbi, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, has done a great job at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ferdinand believes that the 43-year-old Italian manager should be considered for the Manager of the Year award.

The Independent reported in April that Tottenham are considering appointing De Zerbi as their new manager in the summer of 2023.

Ferdinand said: “De Zerbi needs his flowers. And if we are talking manager of the season, he is up there.”

Should Tottenham Hotspur appoint Roberto De Zerbi?
In our view, Roberto De Zerbi would be a very good managerial appointment for Tottenham Hotspur, but he would need time.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and the Spurs fans should not expect the Italian to work wonders straightaway.

Yes, the 43-year-old has been really great at Brighton, but when he came in, there was not much pressure on him to succeed straightaway.

While Brighton have evolved and have become a better team since De Zerbi replaced Graham Potter earlier in the season, the Italian could work in a very relaxed atmosphere where he was allowed to make mistakes and create a playing style in his own image.

Tottenham are a bigger club than Brighton, and there would be more pressure on the Italian for immediate success.

While former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has publicly backed De Zerbi to be a success at Spurs, we would urge caution.
