Man Utd know exactly where they stand in striker search after Harry Kane’s Bayern signal

Bayern Munich and Manchester United have been linked with strikers from among the same group of names, with England captain Harry Kane high on both clubs’ lists

Manchester United look set to be rivalled by Bayern Munich if they push ahead with a move for Harry Kane, but the German champions have cooled their interest in two of the Red Devils’ other targets.

England captain Kane is entering the final year of his Tottenham contract, though Spurs’ transfer demands could yet scupper a deal. Kane himself is still understood to be hopeful of making a move to Old Trafford, but Daniel Levy, the chairman of his current club, does not appear to be on the same page.United have also been linked with Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani as alternatives if a Kane move proves impossible. Bayern have also been mentioned in connection with the pair, but fresh reports indicate United could have a free run at the younger strikers.

According to Sky in Germany, Bayern consider Eintracht Frankfurt striker Kolo Muani to be too expensive at €100m (£85.8m). The 24-year-old, who joined Frankfurt from Nantes in 2022, scored 23 club goals last season plus one for France in the World Cup semi-finals.

Osimhen, who hit 31 for Napoli last season, could cost even more. Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of the Nigerian’s current club, had previously ruled out a summer sale but appears to have softened his stance.

That, according to the same reports, leaves Bayern choosing between Kane and Germany international Niclas Fullkrug. Sky report that Bayern have enquired again about the possibility of a move for Kane, believing they could land him for less than €100m.
