Man Utd, Tottenham stunned as Newcastle, Liverpool join race for target; four-way battle predicted

Newcastle and Liverpool have reportedly joined the race for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who is also a target for Manchester United and Tottenham.

The midfielder gained worldwide attention for his performances in the World Cup last year, helping Morocco reach the semi-finals.

Now, Amrabat is keen on a move away from Fiorentina and there is certainly no shortage of interest in him.As reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham were thought to be leading the race for the 26-year-old. This is despite heated competition from Man Utd.

Indeed, Erik ten Hag is particularly keen on signing the Fiorentina star. The manager knows Amrabat well from their time together at Dutch club Utrecht – where Amrabat’s career began.

Since signing for Fiorentina in 2020, the Moroccan has made 107 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal.

An aggressive defensive midfielder, he is effective at breaking up opposition attacks. On average, he makes 1.3 tackles per game, along with 0.7 interceptions.

So, for Tottenham, he could be an excellent replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who looks set to leave Spurs this summer.

For Man Utd, Amrabat could be the ideal midfield partner for Casemiro, with Scott McTominay and Fred both tipped to depart Old Trafford.

However, despite Tottenham and Man Utd’s interest in Amrabat, it is now Newcastle and Liverpool who are reportedly leading the race.

That is according to Italian outlet FirenzeViola, who claim the Premier League duo are very keen on the midfielder. And, they note they are ‘ready to pay’ Fiorentina’s price tag.

Although, there is no meAlso, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are in the race for Amrabat and interestingly, he would reportedly prefer a switch to LaLiga.

It’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp is looking to further strengthen his midfield, despite already signing Alexis Mac Allister this summer.

For instance, Nice defensive midfielder Khephren Thuram has been heavily linked with a switch to Anfield.Interestingly, Newcastle also have Thuram on their radar. So, whoever misses out on the Frenchman could potentially turn to Amrabat as an alternative.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see which of the Premier League quartet makes the first move in the battle for Amrabat.

As mentioned, it hasn’t been confirmed how much Fiorentina want for him. But, previous reports suggest a bid of just £17m could be enough to convince them to sell.
