The last time the FA Cup final kicked off at 3pm, Man City beat Stoke 1-0
The FA Cup final will take place at 3pm for the first time in 12 years.
The match was initially meant to kick-off between 16:45 and 17:30, but on police advice, the game has been moved forward for Saturday’s mammoth clash between Manchester United and Manchester CityLondon’s Metropolitan Police categorised the fixture as high risk due to it being a derby match. Therefore, they objected to the game being held later in the day, the FA accepted their concerns and moved the fixture.
The game will now clash with the Women’s Champions League final taking place in the Netherlands, which kicks off at the same time.
The decision to bring the game forward also makes transport issues easier, with Beyonce performing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that night.
The 2023 Epsom Derby has also been moved to 1.30pm in order to avoid clashing with the Wembley final.London’s Metropolitan Police categorised the fixture as high risk due to it being a derby match. A Metropolitan spokesperson told ESPN: “Following the conclusion of the semifinals, discussions took place between the Met, the FA, the local authority, BTP (British Transport Police) and other partners to ensure the safety and security of those attending the final at Wembley on Saturday, 3 June.”
