Mail+ report that Antonio Conte is “on his way out” of Tottenham Hotspur after another defeat on the weekend that has seen their top-four credentials dwindle – with the Spurs board not overly keen to trigger the extension in his deal.
Conte, 53, has been missing from the dugout for the last few games bu assistant manager Cristian Stellini has regularly said that the Italian manager is still masterminding things. Spurs entered the week, with three crucial games upcoming.
An FA Cup clash against Sheffield United, and then a trip to Wolves in the Premier League. They went into the games after two successive 2-0 wins over West Ham and Chelsea. Things looked promising. But, Spurs failed to capitalise.
Any chance of silverware ended on Wednesday, losing 1-0 to the Blades. Then, a 1-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday. Long-term Spurs target Adama Traore scoring. Ahead of a second leg against Milan, the atmosphere is a poor one again.
Conte’s future is continually under the microscope but after a bad week, the Mail+ claim Conte is set for the exit door. The report claims there is ‘no great appetite’ to trigger the one-year extension included in his contract at Tottenham.
CONTE ON WAY OUT OF TOTTENHAM WITH SPURS BOARD NOT KEEN ON EXTENSION
Conte has taken a Spurs side looking pretty beleaguered under Nuno Espirito Santo back into the Champions League. But, there is no plan B at Spurs. The plan A does not excite fans and that lack of consistency continues to go amiss.
If Spurs get into the top four, then it is satisfactory job from Conte this season. But the FA Cup defeat is a real blow, and even if Spurs get past Milan – the chances are that they will struggle to go much further. Maybe, it is time to go.
