The Athletic say that Ange Postecoglou is confident that Timo Werner will succeed at Tottenham, owing to the forward’s attributes as well as his personality.
The report states that Postecoglou has admired Werner for a long time and views the former Chelsea man as a good fit for his system.
It is revealed that the Australian also suggested other targets, including Jota, who he worked with at Celtic, but the German international ‘ticked most boxes’ and it was a deal that was ‘internally was agreed on pretty unanimously’ at Hotspur Way.
The Athletic go on to explain that Werner’s tactical versatility was a big factor for the Tottenham boss, who wanted a player who can play out wide as well as through the middle.

The outlet claims that the reports on Werner’s character were also very positive, with the 27-year-old described as being ‘highly motivated, conscientious, and team-focused’.
This is said to be a crucial detail for Postecoglou, who believes that the difference in talent between most players at the top level is negligible and that it is their character that makes a big difference.
The publication says that when Spurs scouted Werner this season, it was immediately apparent that he would be a good fit for their system since RB Leipzig employ a similar style.
Finally, The Athletic add that the fact that the forward has played in the Premier League and lived in London was also a factor, with Postecoglou wanting any new signing to hit the ground running.

The best part about this deal is the fact that there is no risk involved. At worst, Werner would be a decent squad option who could be used as a pacy impact substitute against tired legs.
If Postecoglou is able to get the best out of the 27-year-old, Spurs would have a huge bargain on their hands, given the relatively low option to buy.
