SportBild have revealed (30/06/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) that Thomas Tuchel previously tried to sign Harry Kane when he was at Chelsea but the striker turned down the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.
Multiple publications, including The Evening Standard, have reported over the last couple of days that Bayern Munich are expected to make an improved offer for Kane after seeing their opening offer of £60m plus add-ons turned down.
It has been suggested that the England captain is ready to move to the Allianz Arena in search of silverware should the two clubs agree on a fee.Harry Kane turned down Chelsea two years ago
SporBild have now stated that Bayern remain ‘hot for Kane’ and are keen to ‘lure’ him to Germany this summer despite seeing their opening bid turned down by Spurs. The report adds that this is not the first time that Tuchel has tried to snap up the 29-year-old, with the German coach allegedly trying to convince the Spurs star to join Chelsea back in 2021.
It is explained that the Blues explored whether a deal for Kane would be possible two years ago but the centre-forward ‘rebuffed’ their attempts and made it clear that ‘he could never play for Chelsea’.
The report adds that Tuchel’s chances of uniting with the Spurs star are now ‘significantly higher’ now that the 49-year-old is at Bayern.

One can see why Tuchel is desperate to sign Kane. While the Tottenham man will fit into most systems, one can argue that is an especially good fit for the German’s setup.
Tuchel’s teams do not require the centre-forward to press incessantly off the ball but demand that the number nine be able to hold up the ball while also dropping deep to play in between the line on occasions.
