Thomas Tuchel cancelled a flight to London as he ditched talks with Tottenham Hotspur to become the new Bayern Munich boss.
That’s according to German magazine Kicker, who claim that Tuchel was heading to London for face-to-face talks with Spurs.
However, it’s stated that Tuchel scrapped his meeting with Tottenham officials and cancelled his trip to London.
Bayern Munich came calling last week and the Bundesliga giants were his number one choice despite interest from others.
Tuchel hails from Bavaria and now has a chance to manage Bayern in a shock turn of events.
These claims from Kicker come after the same magazine suggested that Tuchel had been speaking to Spurs.
They now suggest that a meeting was scheduled, which would have been bold from Tottenham.
Antonio Conte hasn’t even gone yet and whilst his exit is inevitable, such advanced talks with Tuchel right now is surprising.
We’re sceptical on Tottenham having such a strong interest in Tuchel but they could still benefit from his move.
Tuchel has been lured to Bayern as a replacement for Julian Nagelsmann.
The 35-year-old was surprisingly sacked and immediately replaced with Tuchel in a bonkers few days at Bayern.
Nagelsmann is now available and he makes much more sense as a Tottenham manager target than Tuchel.
Spurs have fancied Nagelsmann in the past and The Telegraph claim that Tottenham are now seeking talks.
Nagelsmann had such a strong reputation at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, emerging as the top young manager in Europe with an exciting brand of football on display.
Nagelsmann has had his first major setback in his career but could immediately have a chance to rebuild his reputation with Spurs.
Tottenham fans probably didn’t want another former Chelsea manager anyway, and would surely prefer to see Nagelsmann arrive as Conte’s successor.
