Chelsea coaches really rate David Raya but the expectation is that Tottenham Hotspur will win the race for the Brentford stopper.

David Raya is attracting admiring glances from Chelsea but Tottenham Hotspur appear to be firm favourites for his signature. That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that the Chelsea coaching staff are big fans of Raya.

Chelsea are likely to go in for another goalkeeper with Edouard Mendy now seemingly heading for Saudi Arabia.

Spaniard Raya appears to be on their wish list but a move to Chelsea now looks a little unlikely.

It’s stated that Raya is ultimately expected to sign for Tottenham instead, with Spurs potentially ready to strike a blow to the Blues.Hugo Lloris looks likely to move on this summer and new boss Ange Postecoglou would no doubt love to add a ball-playing goalkeeper.

Raya would certainly fit the bill and Tottenham have been chasing a deal in recent days.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Raya has already accepted personal terms with Tottenham and talks are ongoing to sort out a fee.

Raya is entering the final year of his Brentford deal and Tottenham are trying to drive the price down – something Brentford aren’t so keen on accepting.

David Raya faces immediate return to Brentford if he joins Tottenham Hotspur
If Tottenham do get the deal over the line, Raya would make an instant return to Brentford.

The Premier League fixture list came out last week and Tottenham’s first game is – you guessed it – away at Brentford.

Raya would be making his competitive Tottenham debut against his former club, in front of fans who would no doubt love to give him stick for 90 minutes. That scenario is a real possibility now with Chelsea seemingly not anticipating beating Tottenham to Raya’s signature.

A proven Premier League goalkeeper with outstanding passing ability, Raya is the kind of goalkeeper Tottenham are seeking.

Add in that Raya counts as a homegrown player and this move seems to make ideal sense – if Tottenham can find an agreement on a fee.
