REPORTS SUGGEST MOURINHO SIGNING ALREADY NOT IN POSTECOGLOU’S PLANS

Ange Postecoglou could make a first big call at Tottenham Hotspur with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg allegedly primed for the chopping block.

Multiple reports suggest that Tottenhwo reports have emerged suggesting that Hojbjerg may leave Tottenham this summer.

The Sun claimed that Højbjerg’s future in North London is looking ‘uncertain’.

It’s suggested that the Dane isn’t a natural fit for new manager Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.

The report adds that Højbjerg’s future is now ‘in the balance’ and could be sold this summer.am Hotspur midfielder 90Min add that Højbjerg is not thought to be part of Postecoglou’s plans moving forward and could now be sold.

Højbjerg has now racked up nearly 150 appearances for Spurs since arriving from Southampton in 2020.

Højbjerg has been a battler, a fighter, driving himself through unbelievable workloads for the Tottenham cause.

That should and has been commended, but it’s also reasonable to question whether he fits a Postecoglou team.

Postecoglou utilised Callum McGregor as a lone pivot at Celtic, charged with the task of protecting the back four and being their playmaking hub.

Højbjerg hasn’t really featured in that kind of role at Spurs but did record 235 progressive passes last season, putting him 10th in the Premier League.

Maybe Højbjerg deserves a chance there in pre-season but there are reasonable doubts about the Dane’s mobility to play as a lone anchor man.

McGregor is quick across the ground and that certainly helps Celtic’s transition defence and Postecoglou may feel that Højbjerg can’t quite do the same thing.

Højbjerg was just what Jose Mourinho wanted in the Spurs midfield and he has proven to be good value for money at just £15million.

Postecoglou is now taking Spurs in a different direction though and may immediately stamp his authority on the Tottenham squad by attempting to sell Højbjerg and bring in a new midfielder anchor man.
