Michael Dawson says Eric Dier should get ‘all the respect he deserves’ if he departs Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window.

HITC sources have been told that Radu Dragusin is closing in on a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, even though Bayern Munich tried to hijack the deal.

Whilst Spurs have got their man, Bayern still need that centre-half and there is every chance they could now turn to Eric Dier.

HITC were told last week that the 29-year-old held talks with the German club about a possible move to the Bundesliga champions.

With Radu Dragusin set to sign for Tottenham at any given moment, Michael Dawson reacted to the knock-on effect that would have for Eric Dier and how this possible Bayern move is a ‘fantastic opportunity’ for him, as he told Sky Sports News (10/01/24 at 1:10 pm).

This has been a pure win-win situation for those at Hotspur Way because Ange Postecoglou has got his man and the club could now also free up wages/secure a possible fee with the Eric Dier transfer.

Radu Dragusin in and Eric Dier out

“He should be remembered with very much respect,” said Dawson. “A great servant to the football club. He has been there for nearly ten years now.

“Eric was there when I signed. He was in that team that Poch came in. They got to the Champions League final with him playing as a holding midfielder, then he went to centre-half. I think he should get all the respect that he deserves.

“When you come to an end, and Ange Postecoglou is looking to play in a different way and I can understand why Eric doesn’t fit in that formation and the way you want to play, but he should be respected because he has been a fantastic servant to Spurs.

“And now look, if it does happen, then you are going to Bayern Munich. It’s a great opportunity for him. Obviously, he is coming from Lisbon before when they signed him and it’s a fantastic opportunity for him to go to a Champions League club. Good luck to him, if that deal does happen.”

Strong start to the January transfer window

It wasn’t so long ago that Antonio Conte was ranting and raving about how there are so many issues at Spurs.

Daniel Levy was getting pelters left, right and centre. There were calls for him and ENIC to get out of the club before the summer of 2023.

Yet it has all turned on its head in less than a year, all thanks to Postecoglou.

It just goes to prove what a high-level manager and strong man-manager can do to a team that, not so long ago, were crumbling before everyone’s eyes.
