Spurs could move to sign James Maddison as Leicester look set to sign Tete from Lyon in the January transfer window
Tottenham may have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Leicester City and England playmaker James Maddison in the transfer window. This comes after the Foxes have potentially already lined up a replacement for the midfielder.
A creative player has been a missing piece for Spurs since the arrival of Antonio Conte, with the side unable to land one in the summer window. Christian Eriksen was linked with filling that role as a free agent, but the Lilywhites didn’t pursue a return as the Dane made a move to Manchester United instead.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Leicester City are in advanced talks to sign Brazilian winger Tete from Olympique Lyon. Discussions are now said to be at the final stages.
Both Maddison and Tete feature in the same position, which highlights that the Foxes seem to be looking to replace the Englishman amid interest from a host of top clubs to secure his signature. Brendan Rodgers has already suggested that the midfielder could be on his way out of the club in the past.
He told reporters: “It’s getting more difficult. The financial resources, not just in the top six, makes it really difficult. Clubs have multiple injections of finances. We have one owner and one family. Each year it gets tougher. It doesn’t soften our ambition to be super competitive.”
With Leicester ramping up their transfer business, it creates a chance for Spurs to test the Foxes’ resolve with an approach for Maddison.
