Jason McAteer has incredibly told Tottenham Hotspur to appoint France legend Zinedine Zidane as their next manager if Antonio Conte leaves the club in the summer.
The former Liverpool midfielder thinks Spurs need to get things right on the field of play, with the north London club at a crossroads.
The contract of two key figures are in their crucial stages – the man in the dugout and their star striker, Harry Kane.
Conte’s current deal at Hotspur Way expires in the summer, there are strong suggestions that he will leave and the club won’t extend his stay.
It’s a different story for Kane, whose current contract has less than 18 months left to run. Do Spurs sell in the summer if he doesn’t sign on the dotted line?
Nonetheless, when discussing who could be Tottenham’s next manager, McAteer put forward Zidane’s name, as he told beIN SPORTS (28/01/23 at 5:55 pm).
“Tottenham have to get the next manager right,” said McAteer. “You know who I would give it to if it was free. Zidane!
“Someone has to get this club believing and playing – they need to start scoring goals in the first half.”
Whilst Daniel Levy did very well to lure Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho to the club, it would be the shock of all shocks if Zidane accepted any proposal from them.
There were previous suggestions that Manchester United might have wanted to appoint the Real Madrid legend, but nothing happened in that regard.
Of course, the easy option for Spurs would be for Conte to stay, but it has to be questioned why his current deal hasn’t been extended yet, as well as Harry Kane’s.
It’s not exactly helpful to the long-term planning of the club, unless they are only going on a short-term basis.
