Tottenham in jaw-dropping move for expensive Man Utd attacker as £90m double deal emerges for Postecoglou

Tottenham are being tipped to start Ange Postecoglou’s reign in style by landing players from Manchester United and Leicester in a double swoop which could reach £90million.

Tottenham appointed Postecoglou on June 6, with the manager penning a four-year contract after deciding to leave Scottish club Celtic. Postecoglou has become the permanent replacement for Antonio Conte, who left Tottenham by mutual consent in March.

Postecoglou has arrived shortly before a pivotal transfer window for the club. Chairman Daniel Levy must decide whether to keep Harry Kane or let him leave for a big price.Kane will soon enter the final 12 months of his contract. If Levy opts to sell, then he should be able to receive around £100million for his star man. Man Utd are his main suitors from the Premier League, though they will face competition from Real Madrid.

If Levy decides to keep Kane for another season, then they will benefit from an extra 25-plus goals next season in all probability. However, Spurs will then be faced with the prospect of losing one of their best ever players on a free transfer.

It looks like Spurs will probably sell Kane, which means they will need to make some big attacking signings to replace his goals and influence.

The North London side have already been urged by Jermaine Pennant to bring in Ivan Toney from Brentford as Kane’s successor up front.

And now the Daily Star talk up the possibility of a shock swoop on Man Utd for England winger Jadon Sancho, which follows TEAMtalk’s exclusive reveal that his future might be away from Old Trafford.

Tottenham plot shock Man Utd raid
The 23-year-old has shown some signs of promise under manager Erik ten Hag, but he has still had a disappointing campaign.

Sancho has struggled to get into the Man Utd team ahead of Ten Hag’s preferred wingers Marcus Rashford and Antony, and this seems to have alerted Spurs to his possible signing. The Star write that Spurs ‘are considering a £50m swoop’ for him. Some of Man Utd’s Premier League rivals have begun ‘monitoring’ his situation and Spurs are named as ‘definitely’ being interested.

Borussia Dortmund have told Man Utd they would be happy to take Sancho back on a season-long loan. Of course, Sancho shone with Dortmund in Germany before moving to Man Utd for £73m in July 2021.However, the report explains why it is more likely Man Utd will accept a permanent transfer for Sancho than a loan. Ten Hag is hopeful of raising transfer funds for his big-money pursuits of Kane and Chelsea ace Mason Mount. And with the takeover still yet to be agreed, selling players is the best way to do this.

Surprisingly, Sancho looks like he could be one of the first names to leave.

Spurs will still have to up their bid to agree a deal though, as the report claims Man Utd have set their asking price at £60m.

Sancho is not the only England star on Spurs’ wish list as they have also entered into discussions with Leicester for long-term target James Maddison.
The attacking midfielder will almost certainly move on this summer following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship.

The Foxes have previously demanded either Spurs or Newcastle pay £60m for Maddison. But they are now in the second tier, while Maddison’s contract expires in June 2024, and those factors mean Spurs could agree a deal at £40m.

Spurs are hopeful of landing both Sancho and Maddison for a combined £90m, although Man Utd’s demands could force them to reach the £100m mark.

Meanwhile, Spurs have been named as shock suitors for a Chelsea attacker who is facing an uncertain future.
