Tottenham in talks with Leicester over James Maddison transfer fee and remain frontrunners ahead of Newcastle

Talks are continuing between Leicester City and Tottenham over a price for James Maddison.

Spurs are keen to land the England international and beat Newcastle to his signing.he 24-year-old attacking midfielder is a certainty to leave the King Power Stadium following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League.

Where he goes, though, is still to be determined, with Spurs trying to land the set-piece specialist.

Valued at £50million, Spurs will look to strike a deal to make Maddison their first signing under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

That’s despite interest from Newcastle who are set to bolster their midfield with the £60m signing of AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.

The Magpies are believed to have failed with a bid for Maddison last summer, with the three-cap England international long on their radar.

But despite Newcastle having Champions League football to offer, it may be Spurs who land the star, with Leicester needing to cash in and finance their summer transfer window in the Championship.

Maddison, formerly of Norwich, has a record of 43 goals and 32 assists in 163 Premier League games, but was unable to stop Leicester from relegation last season.
