Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements before the summer transfer window closes.
According to Daily Mirror journalist James Nursey, Tottenham are looking to take advantage of Blackburn Rovers’ financial problems and strike a deal for Ashley Phillips. The talented 18-year-old central defender is highly rated around England and he could prove to be a solid, long-term acquisition for Tottenham.
It is no secret that Spurs will have to improve their defensive options this summer and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in the right reinforcement.
They have been linked with players like Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven as well.
Although Phillips is quite young and he’s not ready to make his mark in the Premier League yet, he should prove to be a quality long-term investment.
James Nursey claims that the move to Tottenham should be finalised tomorrow and the talented young defender will then join up with his new club in pre-season. Phillips is set to travel to Asia immediately.
The opportunity to play for a club like Tottenham will be an attractive option for the youngster and he will look to continue his development with regular football at the London club.
Tottenham have done well to sign players like James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario so far. They will need to improve their defensive options before the window closes. They should look to bring in a quality striker as well if Harry Kane leaves.
