Tottenham will make a formal approach to Celtic’s Treble-winning boss Ange Postecoglou this week with the Australian a leading contender to replace Antonio Conte

Tottenham are set to make a formal approach to discuss their managerial vacancy with Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou this week.

Postecoglou, who clinched the Scottish domestic Treble on Saturday, is a leading contender for the Tottenham head coach’s job.

Spurs want to formally discuss the position with the Australian and if talks are positive, the Premier League side hope to be in a position to offer him the job in the coming days.

Postecoglou is understood to be open to taking the Spurs job and is now in a strong position to take the reins ahead of next season.

While the opening weeks of Tottenham’s search for Antonio Conte’s long-term successor focused on Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot, the Parkhead boss has been a fixture on Spurs’ list of potential candidates. But with interest in Naglesmann and Slot stalling, Postecoglou’s chances of getting the Spurs job have improved.

Luis Enrique and Fulham head coach Marco Silva – who Mail Sport revealed last month has a £6million release clause in his contract – have also made the latter stages of the recruitment process.
